CHUNDARI PENNE (PART 1) - A SHORT STORY ABOUT LOVE

As the song played loudly, she stood still in the middle of a commercial coffee shop with a beverage in one hand and a muffin in another. In her path of vision was her best friend, who seemed busy on a call. Everything seemed cloudy for the next few minutes. Then the song got over.

"Preet! Preet! Are you okay, darling?", her best friend asked.

"Why? What happened?" she questioned.

"You seemed lost. I am surprised you didn't drop either one of these things," the best friend quipped, taking the muffin from her hand.

"I am just hungry, let's eat!" lied Preet while gesturing to move.

In all honesty, she was a bit shaken. She needed to hear that song again and yet she wondered if that was the right thing to do. But with her best friend around, this was not the time to ponder. Later, she thought!

At home, she sat staring at the laptop screen in front of her eyes. Google's search engine prompted a few options to her. She choose one and the browser diverted her straight to YouTube. It was the same monstrous song! She pressed the pause button. Slowly, took told of her headphones and attached it to the speakers. Placing them over her ears, Preet adjusted the volume and just before closing her eyes, pressed the play button.

The male singer's voice pulled at her as he belt out, "Chundari Penne".

Once the song got over, she opened her eyes and walked towards her window. As she sat looking out at the Delhi skyline, her thoughts got intertwined in memories of her business trip to Kerala six months ago.

Pain in the ass... she thought. Then laughed loudly. Those two words and now this song reminded her of him.
