“FIONA!”
A girl was sitting on the sand facing the
sea. When she heard her name being called out, she looked in the direction of
the sound, then continued watching the sea blankly.
“FIONA!” said the man again, this time
standing right next to the young girl.
“What are you doing here?” asked the girl.
“Your mom was worried about you”.
“How did you know where to find me?”
“Darling, it’s not rocket science. This is the only place you run to every time you are heart broken.
Frankly, couldn’t you pick up a restaurant or a club instead? This long walk on
the beach is killing. Have some pity on your poor old dad”.
“Are you trying the ‘emotional blackmail’
card on me?” asked Fiona.
“Is it helping?”
“Not really”.
“Then what would help? Anything for you, my
child,” said the concerned father.
Fiona gestured him to sit beside her. For the next few minutes both just continued watching the sea in all its roughness. Then the
elderly gentleman said, “When your one dream is crushed, you take your time to
mourn, then you build another dream”.
“It’s not that easy,” stated Fiona.
“It’s not that difficult either. You know I
was dating someone else before I met your mother”.
“Yes, yes. We all know the story”.
“Yup, but what you all don’t know is, after my first break-up, I
had vowed never to fall in love again,” confessed the father.
“Then mom made you change your mind?” asked
Fiona.
“No, No! I dated two more girls before I
finally realised your mom was the one. I was 35 at the time”.
“So, what are you trying to say?” Fiona
wondered aloud.
“Nothing actually, except that there is
always hope”.
“Hmmmm”.
It was getting dark, the sun had already
set. Fiona suddenly got up, dusted herself and gave her father her hand to get
up. “Let’s go home. I am feeling hungry,” she said.
“And what happened to everything?” asked
her dad.
“Nothing. Just realised something”.
Both father and daughter started to walk.
“What?” asked dad
“That tomorrow is another day”.
