MOVING ON

“It’s been three years now, Aisha. When do you plan to move on?”

“It’s not that I am not trying mom, but whenever I meet someone nice, I start comparing him to Anil. I just cannot help doing that.”

Aisha and her mom were sitting drinking tea.

“Maybe you are not meeting the right guys. I know of this good website, where you can find different suitors.”

“You are talking about putting my profile on a dating site?”

“Yes. I can see that you don’t seem to think of it as a good idea.”

“No. Nothing like that. I am just thinking what prospects I will get – perhaps divorcees, widowers?”

“Well, times are changing, my dear girl. Now, more people are okay with  second marriages. Even unmarried men are open to marry widows and divocees. Society is more accepting.”

“I don’t know, Mom.”

“At least let me put your profile. Try it for a month, if you don’t like it or you find it too stressful, you can always quit.”

“I know I am going to find it too stressful. Why do I have to get into this, Mom?”

“Well, because you cannot spend the rest of your life with Anil’s memories. You are a sweet child. You need someone whom you can spend your whole life with.”

“I had the best, mom. But then he was snatched away from me in that bloody car-crash?”

“Aisha,” said her mom and with a tender touch caught her hand.

Aisha closed her eyes and said, “a few more months, mom I need a few more months with Anil’s memories. I promise. Once I am ready to let go, I will come to you myself.”

Her mom looked into Aisha’s eyes and could see the sadness within.

What more could she say? She just kept mum.
