MATCHMAKER

“My mother-in-law is in the next compartment. I just hope she does not see me,” said Anupa.

“You don’t like her?” asked Lilette.

“No ya, nothing like that. But we travel together almost every day. Since I  stay in a joint family,  I need some respite from her sometimes. As it is our relationship started in the train.”

“Relationship in the train as in……?” enquired Lilette of her train friend.

“Are, my mother-in-law and I first started out as friends in our common evening train. Our group was small and we got to know each other better.”

“So did she introduce her son to you then?”

“Kind of. We both attended a common train friend’s party with our families. That’s when I met my husband. Initially we were friends, but then we became more.”

“So Lalita Aunty never had a problem with it?”

“Not really, I guess she thought she knew me in and out. So she just agreed.”

“Or maybe because this way her daughter-in-law would always be around her. No escape!”

“I don’t know. It could be anything. But in honesty, I think because she was my train friend, I could trust her more.”

“So the train indirectly played the role of a matchmaker!”

“You could say that. By the way, I have a brother-in-law for whom we are searching a good girl. And I thought I should talk about him to you.”
