THE SUPPORTIVE SPOUSE

Sameera picked up Piku and kept her down on the bed. The girl was only seven months old, but her cheeks were well rounded and she was a healthy baby. Sameera kept an eye on her, while the child turned on her back. Taken in with the little one’s cuteness, Sameera picked her again and held her. Piku in her playfulness pulled her aunts cheeks and Sameera couldn’t stop laughing. Watching all this was Sameera’s husband Vishal. When she turned towards the door, she saw him standing there.

“Does vahini want her back?” asked Sameera.

Vishal just nodded and took Piku from her.

That night when all the chores were done and Vishal was already in bed reading a book, Sameera snuggled up to her husband. Continuing to read, he warmly embraced her.

“I wanted to talk to you about something,” she said.

“I think I know what it is about,” said Vishal keeping the book on the side table.

“Is it that obvious?” she asked.

“Lately, you have started playing and taking care of Piku quite a lot. Everyone has noticed a change,” he said.

“No one said anything about it to me,” Sameera said.

“What will they say?” asked Vishal.

“Considering our thoughts you mean?

“Yes,” he said.

“What do you think?” questioned Sameera.

“I told you before marriage itself, my happiness lies in yours,” said Vishal.

“But things will change and I will need your support more,” said Sameera.

“That is one thing you will never have to worry about. I supported you even when you didn’t want a child,” said Vishal.

He kissed her forehead, picked up his book again and continued reading, while still in his embrace Sameera slept like a baby.
